Directing Change
Directing Change is a film contest for students and
young people throughout the state of California.
There are 5 different short-film categories which are
submitted on March 1st of every year.
Along with the Hope & Justice category, which
allows for submissions of different art forms
(TikTok, drawing, song, poem, etc.) due at the end
of every month. We encourage students to participate
by learning about mental health topics and sharing
their own videos and creations with the community
to spread awareness. We offer a variety of
interesting presentation topics related to Directing Change:
Mental Health 101
Anti-Bullying
Self-Care
LGBTQ+
and more!
(Each presentation is 45 minutes)
Mission statement: To educate young people about critical
health topics through the medium of film and promote
social justice by changing conversations in school and
communities.
The Directing Change Program and Film Contest was
launched as a demonstration initiative as part of
Each Mind Matters: California's Mental Health
